Things To Do

Woodcutter’s Lodge is a stone’s throw away from Alton Water, which ranges across nature trails, cycling routes (bike hire available), fishing spots, dinghy sailing and paddle boarding. Footpaths from the property will take you to the east side of Alton Water within 15 minutes. Pack a picnic and spend the day relaxing on the water’s edge, taking in the beautiful scenery or for the more enthusiastic, you can walk the circular 10-kilometre route in its entirety.

The River Orwell and River Stour are in close proximity. Orwell Country Park is the perfect place to park up and enjoy a scenic walk along the Suffolk shoreline. Pin Mill on the River Orwell lies within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you fancy a visit to the beach, you can drive to Aldeburgh in 50 minutes and both Walberswick and Southwold Pier Beach is an hour. We highly recommend Aldeburgh’s fish and chips! Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park is a nice adventure for children, which has farm animals, a vegetable and flower garden and a gift and craft shop.

There are three National Trust properties: Ickworth, Flatford Mill in the vale of Dedham and Sutton Hoo. The film The Dig is based on the excavation of the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at this site near Woodbridge.

The local Co-op, butcher’s shop and pub are a short walk away for supplies. The Suffolk Foodhall and The Freston Boot pub and restaurant are a few minutes’ drive if you fancy a bite to eat. The Food Hall is also a great place to browse the finest Suffolk produce from local suppliers.

The property has a pretty outlook and open fields and woodland are just around the corner. It’s more than likely you will spot a muntjac or two and possibly a herd of deer!
